Find Gary - Toronto and Beyond.

Gary's Hitting The Road

I’m traveling from California to, hopefully, Labrador Newfoundland. I did cross the country on a motorcycle 40 years ago. I retired in December 2010 and thought it was time to do it again.

People have asked “why are you doing this, it’s crazy and you are 67 years old.” My only answer is – I’m not dead and it sounds like fun. I crossed the country 40 years ago on a motorcycle and it was a great experience. If I don’t hit a moose or an elk along the way and become a hybrid – I’m thinking the next trip will be on the US back roads on a Vespa.

My plan is to depart June 1 and head to Weaverville to visit friends and then on to Lassen National Park and Tule Lake to visit the Japanese internment center.

Tomorrow is Memorial Day and I still have a lot to do. I'm excited to get on the road and to see old friends and make new ones.

I plan to leave as early Tuesday morning as I can but I doubt it will be before 9:00. I will head to Calistoga (a small town at the end of the Napa Valley) and then over Mt St Helena to Lake County and eventually get to I5. My first stop for the day will be to visit friends in Weaverville California. I'll spend the night with them and then off to Lassen National Park. I plan to spend my second night in Tule Lake - home of one of the WW2 Japanese internment camps.

  1. I am a little slow catching up, but I did want to say "Yahoo" I am thrilled for you and yes, just a tiny bit sad for me and mine. I would have liked to have been a part of a send off party. Serves me right for keeping my head down. Maybe we can have a welcome home one instead. I am looking forward to checking in on your blog and following your progress.
